I dig Greg Maddux

Just read an an ESPN article about Greg Maddux’s retirement. Without a doubt the best pitcher that I have ever seen. It is a sad thought that he won’t be out there any more. I remember his early days with the Cubs. Amazing. I remember when he left the Cubs. Heartbreaking.

He has got the most wins of any pitcher alive today. More gold gloves than anyone. Not to mention 4 Cy Youngs. Never got caught in any scandals. He just went out and pitched. He didn’t even look like a great pitcher. Never really threw that hard, but he had great control, and knew more about pitching than anyone. He knew the batters, the parks, the umps, everything. He spent all his time watching tape of the opposing batters just to find their weakness.

All of this and perhaps the best commercial of all time:

Cubs are in the Playoffs

Cubs won today to clinch a playoff berth. It has been an incredible year for them. I have seen good teams in the past, but this is the most complete one that I have seen the Cubs field. Zambrano pitched a no hitter last week, Geovani Soto is going for Rookie of the Year, Ramirez and Lee are good as usual, and the bullpen is good and deep, and all the position players stepping up at different moments and bringing home the wins.

Go Cubs Go!

10,000

The Cubs came from behind in the 9th to take the lead. Wood gives up a run in the bottom half and then the Cubs win it in the 10th. Six wins in a row and 15-6 this season. And the bigger milestone was the 10,000th win in franchise history. Good milestone, good game, and good win.

Go Cubs!

Go Cubs Go

Hit Wrigley with Felper this afternoon. It was a great day. It feels like spring is finally here. Baseball, hotdogs and Wrigley Field. What could be better? Well the Cubs winning for one, which they did today. Fukudome is on fire. The crowd went nuts when he stepped up to bat. I am glad that he is off to a good start. We can’t forget our past heros – Derrick Lee jacked one out and Kerry Wood even got a save. Then we all got to sing Go Cubs Go at the end of the game.

There were a bunch of youngins out there today. I can’t wait to take my little one out there and make here a Cubs fan. (not an obnoxious one though). I think that will have to wait until next season.
