Link Chain

What the hell is a link chain? Let me tell you. This is when you start looking at a website and then click on one of the links that you see on the site to find a new great site, then click on a link on that site, and keep doing that until your whole day as either been wasted or you find some great insight into humanity. Today I think I found a nice chain.

Started off on my own homepage on netvibes. I set this up to easily keep track of some of the interesting blogs that I am interested in. Not quite as simple as an RSS reader, but it gives me a good overview of what is going on.

Next I hit Bread and Honey. Still love this blog. Two moms who love cooking and photography. I love the idea of two good friends getting together to share the cooking of meals. There is something sacred about dining together. The thing that I miss most being over here in Doha, is sharing food and drink (or just drink) with good friends. I don’t know if the blog is going to last, it seems that the girls lives are getting filled with other pursuits.

This leads me to my next link at Summer Allen-Gibson’s blog. She is one of the girls from Bread and Honey. Her blog is called Design is Mine. “Isn’t is lovely?” she ask. My answer, a resounding yes.

Summer has a lot of links in her sidebar, but Design Boner is the one that hit my eye. Just thought the idea of lusting after great design would be fun. Turns out to be another good blog. Lot of cool design ideas/photos. Turns out that this is another blog written by two people. One of there recurring posts are 6 & 7. The two bloggers each take a photo on Saturday and Sunday and post them next to each other. Four photos each week in a simple post. Such a great idea.

Turns out that they got the idea for the 6 & 7 post from the blog 3191. Stephanie and Mav live 3191 miles apart, but each weekday they take a photo and post them as a diptych of what is going on that day. The idea reminds me of the Harvey Keitel’s character in Smoke. But I like this one even better because it reminds us that even though we might be far apart from each other, we can still be connected.

Empty Inbox

I spent some time today emptying out my email. I hate it when email starts to pile up. Thinking I’ll get back to this later, I leave something in the inbox. Or just checking email when I don’t have enough time to go through everything and I quickly check but don’t delete anything. Well today I had enough. I spent a couple of hours getting everything sorted, taken care of, or discarded and now have an empty inbox. The goal is to keep it that way.

Woot.

Best in Culture

Just saw that the New York Times says that Doha is one of the 44 best places in the world to go. It was ranked number nine overall and number one in culture. Not bad for the small town. The big thing to see is the Museum of Islamic Art. It just opened in December and it getting world wide attention for its comprehensive collection of Islamic arts. With the coming of the Tribeca film fest this year it might be a good time to be here. Doha sounds nice in the New York Times article. I am going to have to get out and see more I guess.

Nice to see Chicago on the list at 14, and I was in DC in 2007 which came in at number two. Maybe I’ll get a chance to hit a few more of those in the next couple of years.

BBQ at the Sping

Work had a nice BBQ at our housing complex tonight. They set up a nice spread out by the pool. Most of the staff is back from their holiday break, so it was nice to get together and hear about their trips. School starts up again next Sunday. I have been gearing up getting the equipment ready for classes.

McDazzle

What a fun word. Do you like to make up words? Maybe we could all make up words together. I’ll start:

Friendinger: a small device that dings whenever your friends are thinking about you. Wouldn’t that be nice. Unless it never dinged. I guess that would suck. You sitting around all day waiting, waiting, waiting for someone to think about you. Think anything about you. Maybe it’s broken. Maybe you should call your friend and ask them to think about you so that it would ding, but that would feel kind of pathetic. “Hey man, could you think about me, my dinger hasn’t gone off in days.” Who could you trust not to make fun of you? Who is your real friend? Do you have a real friend? or any friend? Why won’t someone think about me, dammit? Maybe if I shake it, it will ding. Ding, dammit, ding.

OK, now it’s your turn.
