Who am I

I have been thinking for a long time that I need to do something more with my life. I am not sure what, but I think that this is the time for me to figure it out. This is the first time in my life that I am not being forced into some direction. I have a year to figure out who I am, and what do I want to do. It is a time for chances, new things, and re-evaluating what is important. Maybe it is a mid-life crisis. Don’t know what to call it, but I know that this is the time. I have made some big moves in my life lately that many have questioned, but I just could not continue with out some sort of look at why was I doing all of this. Don’t know where I will end up, but I just know that it is important to take the journey.

Champaign, Friends, Sicko

I came down to Champaign to pick up some meds and take care of some paperwork. It was also a good time to meet up with some friends.

Met up with Larry Gates and got to hear a few peeps of his new work. I am liking what I have heard so far; can’t wait to hear everything.

Stopped in to say, “Hi” to Mary and Larry at Wind, Water and Light. It is always good to see them. I really love their shop; always interesting new things.

Then had a drink with Jason. After drinks went over to the Art theater and we watched Sicko. By far Michael Moore’s best film. Made me really depressed. Health Care, Child Care, Work Weeks, and Education are so messed up in this country. I see how bad things are and want to do something about it. Don’t know if it is better to try and change a nations attitude or give up and move to another country. I know my problems with health coverage is going to be a pain in the ass the rest of my life, because of my Diabetes. It sucks that people are kept so far down. I have always been one to advocate giving everyone a fair chance and let things go. Universal Health Care should be a part of that. Wouldn’t that fall under the “Life” part of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?”

iPhone & Winnie Cooper

Just picked up an iPhone today. I am loving it so far. Making calls is easy. Answering the phone fades out the music and it starts right back up after the call is over. Love the google maps and youtube videos. I have worked a lot with Apple computers, and I have always liked them, but this might be their best product ever. Right not I am just browsing on wifi in my house, but I will try the edge network tomorrow. See if it is usable. Nice job Jobs and the other Apple folks. Keep up the good work with your new products, but don’t forget about the computer business. Some of us make a living working on Macs. I hope it just becomes better as new products come out.

Just finished up watching an episode of the Wonder Years. Love that show. I still need to put together my Winnie Cooper short that I wrote a while ago.

Ha.

Week In Review (Chicago: Week 1)

So VH1 called an told me that I was having the best week ever. Not really, but it feels like it. I have done so much this week that it feels like I have a completely different life. I hope every week turns out to be this good. I am going to make that one of my goals each week.

So here we go: (Chicago: Week 1)
Art Institute: saw some great photography.
Abbey Pub: had a great meal and saw some great music.
Da Cubs: Cubs win and Barry hits a couple out.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s: saw Deep Blue Something and really liked a lot of their stuff.
Second City: signed up for classes and went to orientation.
New Camera: ordered a new video camera that should come in this week.

Not bad at all.

Second City Orientation

I signed up for improv and writing classes at The Second City. I don’t think that I have ever been afraid of something so much in my life. At the same time I am more excited than I have been about anything in a very long time. I have always had a secret wish to act. I started acting in Junior High when a friend of mine wanted me to come along with him to audition for the school play. Turns out that I got a part and he didn’t. Since then it has been in the back of my mind to do something with it, but it never really seemed like it was a real way to make a living. Don’t know what it will turn into, but I am glad that I am starting.

The new student orientation was today. Brian Posen was the guy who was leading the introduction. Loved this guy. He was so full of energy and fun, that I just have to get to know him. I think that I will add “Go out drinking with Brian Posen” to my list of life goals. I imagine that he would be great to just talk to him for a while. He talked a little about the history of the place, and it was pretty amazing to realize that this was the best place to learn improv in the nation. Chicago is a special place when it comes to that.

I am sure that I will have a lot more to say about the program when I start taking the classes (July 31st it the first day).

Deep Blue Something

Just got back from the Deep Blue Something concert at the Abbey. I was just there because of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but it turns out the rest of their stuff is pretty damn good. I don’t know if it is a blessing or a curse to have one hit song. I guess if they didn’t have that one hit, I would not have seen their other stuff tonight. Not a bad life for them anyway. They get to go on the road and play good music every night. Sound like success to me.

The other bands that opened were also pretty good. Kyle Mann Combo started off the night. Rather pretty music. I like them a lot. I look forward to seeing them around town. Sunday Morning Chameleon was next up. They brought the rock and kept the crowd excited. Bought their CD for $5. I’ll give it a listen and see what I think of it.

Off to bed now.

Da Cubs!!

Went out to Wrigley today. Cubs beat the Giants 9-8. This morning I just jumped on the bus and set out to the game hoping that I could find someone selling tickets. Worked out well, found some great Upper Deck seats for just $20. Barry Bonds hit a couple out today, numbers 752 and 753. I know that it has been alleged he has done some steroids, but I remember him in the early years when he was an amazing player. So I don’t know what to think of the record, but it still a pretty amazing accomplishment.

New Camera

Bought a new camera today. It is a Canon HV20 HDV camera. It was a cheap one that I can use for small productions up here in Chicago. I still have the nice one for the big projects. It will just be nice to have something that is easy to go out and use on my own. It is also nice to have something quick for shooting podcast and local TV stuff. I would like to do a small local music video show in addition to the national one that I am working on with Chris.

Cubs blew out the Giants today and it has inspired me to see if I can get tickets to tomorrow’s game. It is raining pretty hard right now, so I am not sure if that is a good idea or not. Looking forward to seeing as much of Chicago as I can. I know a lot of people who live in a city and never really enjoy what it has to offer.

Went walking around the neighborhood tonight before the rain. Some interesting places all around. I will pick another direction next time. I still haven’t had any pizza since I moved up here. Got to find something soon.
