A lot of controversy came up over some words of Barack Obama’s pastor. Some people are even calling him a racist. I have known for some time that race is a divisive issue in the US, but I was not prepared for it to be this bad. I was shocked at first, how could things get like this?
I have just listened to Obama’s speech about these comments and race in general. Now I am glad that these things came up, and that maybe a start of a real discussion about race can take place. I am rather disappointed about how the media is portraying it, as just a way to quash the recent hubbub. It can be something more than that. If we want it to, it can be the beginning of an actual change in attitudes. Wouldn’t that be something?
Here is the youtube video if you want to watch it for yourself.
Worth taking the time to watch. Holy Shit! I’ve loved Obama for a long time anyway, but this speech is something else. It makes me want to rise up, and DO something, possibly start making calls for the campaign or maybe just go out and start connecting with people and talking about real issues.
Cried at the end. I don’t think it’s the hormones, either.
I finally understand why I’ve never gotten involved with politics before. I was waiting for someone like him to come along. The things he says are things I have always felt, but was not hearing from politicians. It is a new day. : )
