Week 10: Music & End of Summer

Lots and lots of music this week. I am still a little exhausted, but it was really fun. This next week is going to be a good one too.

Well is is officially the end of summer. I think that it was a pretty good one. Left my job, moved to Chicago, started at Second City, saw five new states, good times with a good girl, lots and lots of music, art, and fun. Probably one of my best seasons of my life. The best part is that I am usually even better in the fall. That means this one is going to be fantastic.

Bears Fall

Bears lose. Grossman still sucks, and I think the rest of the team is giving up on it. You just can’t have a weak leader and expect to keep the franchise going. I have see it many times in my life that good people don’t live up to their ability when they are not inspired. The season is lost without a change.

First day of Autumn. It is my favorite season. I always feel my strongest this time of year. Seems like the power is rising all around. Also doesn’t hurt that fall is nice and cool weather wise. I look forward to how this season goes.

Estrojam 4

Long day/night of Music. It started at Uncommon Ground. I had never been there, but had heard good things about it. I will definitely be going back to this place. It had a great feel, small performance area, and great staff. The performers were all varied and fun. Carrie Lydon performed with Kate Rickenbacker, Kay Barrett, Julie Loyd, Mojdah, and Diana Rein.

Then it was a quick turnaround to get over to the Metro to for the late show to start. AKA Chicago started followed by Suffrajett. Next up was some great fun with Betty Levette. Ending the evening was Grace Potter.

All and all, I think that Estrojam was a big success. So many good bands in such a short time. I am little exhausted, but it was well worth it. Can’t wait until next year.

Estrojam 3

Last night was a great show. It was a bast from first to last. Rita J, PSALM one, Bahamadia, Yo Majesty, and ESG. It was ESG’s last show, so it was a pretty special night for them. All around it was a fun ass party. If you missed it, you missed a good one.

Estrojam 1

I went out to Schuba’s for my first night of Estrojam excitement. I am recording the bands for them, so it isn’t all fun but mostly fun. Started off the night with Sub Rosa. Delightful band. Really liked the lead singers voice. Next up was Cordero. Bi-Lingual band. Nice songs. Don’t know what they were saying in Spanish, but really like “Don Julio.” All the while when they were playing they were asking people to dance. They had nice rhythms to dance to. I was busy with the recording, or I would have been out there myself. I like their ideas about living life for the fun. Having a great time while you are at their show. What a way to live life.

After a break we came back for the late show. Lindsay Anderson stated off the late show. I was mesmerized by this girls voice. Nice eclectic music makers to back her up to. Kristin Hersh finished up the night. Don’t know why I have never heard of her. Loved her intense vocals and great songs. Crowd went nuts for this one.

Double Door tomorrow for the next night. Looking forward to more fun.

Life is Good

Classes were good today. Still doing the improv. Not sure where I am going with that, but I am happy that it is still fun. I am going to sign up for the next batch of classes soon. Looking forward to continuing on. Got some really good feed back, for my sketch pitch today. I look forward to writing it.

Finally got my money from the retirement plan at work. Very happy about that.

Estrojam is kicking off tonight. I will be there starting tomorrow. Looks like it is going to be fun. I’ll keep you posted. Come on out to the shows if you get a chance.

Good Weekend

Virginia came up for the weekend. On Saturday we went to the Art Institute and then went out to Schuba’s for a show. Long day, but it was fun.

Sunday was my family reunion. It was good to see some of the relatives that I hadn’t seen in a while.

I am pretty tired today, so I will probably just take it pretty easy. I have a little bit of writing to do for class tomorrow, but that shouldn’t be too hard.

Funny Time Again

Just got back from classes. I feel like things are back together now. For improv we had a sub named Kat. She was very nice. Even had us doing a little singing. Not really my strongest area, but really fun.

It feels like writings is quickly moving progressing past the improv class. With only a couple of weeks left we will be putting our first sketches together for the final class. I have really learned a lot through the weeks.

Right now I am watching a PBS special with Victor Borge. That man is so fucking funny. I was talking to Virginia about him the other day. She thinks he is funny too. Best funny musician ever. Lots of people forget that he is a great piano player.

No Caffeine

Gave up caffeine today. I was beginning to get too attached to it. I remember how good it was when I gave it up last time. The only problem is the few days of massive headaches. I am hating that part right now. I couldn’t find any aspirin so I had to venture out to the Walgreens. It is doing a little, but I am still having trouble thinking. I should have never started back with the caffeine, but it seemed like it was a good idea at the time. With the diabetes I am not able to drink regular soda and diet cola is the only sugar free option. I guess that I will have to try to stick with water. I wish that restaurants would carry Sprite Zero. That stuff is amazing. Love it so much.
