The Day of Infinite Possibilities

8-8-08.

I call it the day of infinite possibilities. There is something powerful built into these numbers. It is a day that can be the start of many new things in life.

In my life, I have had a couple of new opportunities show up today. I am really excited to see where my life goes in the next few months.

In history, it was 20 years ago today that the Cubs played their first night game. 8-8-88. It was rained out, so the first official one was the next day. I still remember how the tarp was used as a slip and slide.

Currently, the Olympic games are just getting underway. The opening ceremonies were so beautiful. It was perhaps the most beautiful performance that I have ever seen. Their use of video, fireworks, technical visuals, was only rivaled by the sheer numbers of people that performed. It was a sight to see. China has really outdone themselves with this one. I wasn’t really looking forward to this years Olympics, but as I flipping through channels, I was drawn to the images and am a little excited by it. Best opening ceremonies by far. The torch lighting just happened and it was beautiful. I can’t imagine all the work that went into this.

The Big 10

No, I am not talking about the college conference; I am talking about my near range plans for the future. I have about 24 weeks before my child will be born, and I need to get a few projects done before that time. I have selected 10 big projects that I hope to get done. I am not sure how each of them will turn out, but I am positive that at least one of them will provide a good living for me in the future. So here we go:

National TV Show: I have been working on a TV show for the last couple of years with a couple of colleagues. We have a couple of pilots shot and have distribution secured. Right now we are looking for money. We are pretty far along on this one. My work is pretty much done until we go into full production.

Get Healthy: I have been slacking off a little with my health. It is important with my diabetes to get back on track with that one. The weather is a mess so I need to join a gym and work out at least 5 days a week. Don’t need to do too much, just walking and a little strength training. Also need to eat a little better. I will probably publish a blog that will chart my progress.

Children’s Book: I have been writing a children’s book. I have done a couple of revisions. I need to work with an illustrator and then see if I can sell this thing. If I can’t find a publisher I need to put something together myself.

Run for President: I am working on a fictional run for president. I have the concept down, ideas for sketches, and the basic website built. I need to write, produce, shoot and edit the sketches. Should be fun if not profitable.

Sketch Show: I want to write and produce a sketch comedy show. I need to write some more sketches, different styles, and maybe a song or two. Then I need a director, location, actors and that type of thing.

Monologues: I have been wanting to write a series of monologues for some of my acting friends. I really like the form of short monologues. It is an interesting challenge to bring across information and an emotional change with limited time and character.

Screenplay: I have the basic outline for a screenplay that I have been working on for a couple of years. I haven’t been able to understand the characters as much as I would have liked, but it turns out that my life is going more toward that fictional story that I thought of years ago. Maybe I was seeing a glimpse of my future. Whatever the case, I understand a lot more about what the characters are going through now.

Interviews: I have always loved Charlie Rose. I like the idea of being curious and asking questions of people who interest me. I think that I will focus on the unordinary (my own word). People who are choosing a different way of living and thinking.

Photography: Take pictures of interesting people, and places. Put together a website, a book or maybe a show. Even if I just put them up in my apartment and invite friends over. I could also add to my stock photo and video portfolio.

Teaching Video DVD: I have taught quite a few students the basics of video work. I’ll take that lesson plan and bring it out on a podcast or DVD.

That should be more than enough to keep me busy for the next half year. 🙂
