Illini game just finished with Illinois winning 23-20 over Michigan St. Can’t believe that one. Looks like the Freshman QB “Juice” Williams is going to bring some good things to the team. Nice job.

Unregimented the Zine
I am putting together some of my ideas from this blog and other writings (essays, stories, poems). I think I can get a little zine together this fall. I’ll keep you updated with the progress.
I went out tonight.
It has been a while since I have gone out to see some live music. Well I finally got out and saw Lorenzo Goetz and Elsinore at the Illini Union tonight. Sound was bad, room was too big, not much of a crowd, but I still had a good time. Need to get back out there more often.
Thanks Buddy and Keep it Young
It feels good to get comments from the good people out there. So all of you readers out there, feel free to comment on any of the crazy shit that I say. And yes it is OK to say anything that you want to on my blog.
Talked to my friend Jason tonight. He is getting ready to get things moving in his life. Makes me think of the quote, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” I like the thought of that. Everyone talks about people making the big contributions when they are young, but I think that there is a lot that I have left to offer. I am just trying to keep a young attitude. One good thing about living in this town is that there are so many college kids in town. It helps to surround yourself with good people with good attitudes.
I know that I just started that off talking about my friend and then just brought it around to being about me. Well that’s what this blog is about. If you don’t like that, get you own freaking blog, and you can talk about whatever you want.
Almost a Bullshit
I was watching Project Runway tonight, and was about to get a little crazy when Jeffery and Michael were in the bottom two. I couldn’t believe that they were going to kick one of them off. They are the two best designers and one was going to be thrown off. To my surprise they kept both of them. They didn’t kick anybody off tonight. I can’t believe that I am so wrapped up in this show.
Welcome entry is now a Sticky Post
I think that I have the code right to set the top entry as a sticky post. So you should always see the Welcome to Unregimented post at the top. I guess we will see after this post. BTW: I changed the date on the welcome post to make it look like I posted it a long time ago. See I told you not to trust everything you read here.
Some Things
Some things I learned in school and have forgotten, and some things I never learned at all.
I believe that the most important thing that you do in your life is finding some one special to share your time with. Second to that is starting a family. I learned about neither of these things in all of my schooling. I learned calculus and forgot it. I learned chemistry and forgot it. I learned physics, all the kings and queens of England, German, ancient history, and I have forgotten most of them. None of these things were useful in my life. None of these things helped me get a job. So why do we learn all of this stuff? I don’t know.
Some things that I would have liked to have learned are: how do I find a good wife, how could I be a good husband, how do I raise a child, how do I balance a work life and family life? None of these were even addressed in school. There was the one class where people carried around bags of flour as if they were children. I didn’t take that class (neither did most of the students), because it wasn’t required and wouldn’t help me get into college. I’d be willing to bet that raising a child is not the same as lugging a bag of flour.
What I did learn in school was that sex was bad. You will get AIDS and die. Smoking weed is the same as snorting coke or injecting heroine. All drugs will fry your brain like an egg in a frying pan. I grew up respecting teachers, but they in turn lied to me.
I don’t know what is worse under educating or mis-educating. Either way schools are not doing what they need to do. Originally they were set up to train people to work in factories, hence the bells, memorization, and strict obedience. Those skills are becoming less and less useful as time goes on.
Maybe if we were taught how to better raise our kids, we wouldn’t be so willing to let them go on learning the old ways at the old schools. We would demand more. We would demand that they would learn how to become creative thinkers, good people, and involved citizens. I know a lot of learning needs to come from the home, but the reality is that kids spend more time in school that they do with their parents. It is a shame that they don’t come out better prepared for LIFE.
Do I care? Do you?
I was thinking today about all of the things wrong with the world. Do I really care? I wish things were better, but most of my thoughts are on small personal things. Going out to see music, looking at art, reading poetry, movies. None of this really makes a difference in the world.
Most of the time I think that there isn’t much that I could do, but then I remember that most big changes are made by an individual person with a big idea. It is amazing that one person can change the entire world (for the better of worse).
Maybe I will make a change tomorrow. Or maybe I will just worry about what I will have for lunch.
