New Plugin

I am trying a new plug in for my post. It is called yahoo shortcuts. It will apparently add images and maps to my post. So I am going to type some interesting stuff and see what comes up.

I think that Barak Obama will make a great president. I hope that he wins the rest of the primaries.

I have been resting up today because of the sprained ankle. I have been keeping ice off and on all day. I hope that it will heal by Sunday because I have work at the rehearsal for the We Get To Be Canadians show. The show opens on Monday at Gorilla Tango Theatre.

Chicago is a wonderful city. I am very happy to live here. I am really enjoying Second City. I hope to continue with my improv and writing classes. Next week is spring break so won’t have class.

Virginia is coming up for a visit (and to see the show). If I am mobile enough, we can hit some of the sights. Or maybe just watch a movie or something.

I wonder how Apple (AAPL) stock is doing?

I would like to go out drinking, but I don’t think that would be helpful for my diabetes. One of the things I have been doing is making up new Vodka drinks. Martini is the basic, but you can also have other more dessert oriented ones.

Improv Injury

Started a new session of improv today. New teachers name is Craig. Seems like a really good guy. Expects a lot from us, so I think that we will learn.

Sprained my ankle during one of the exercises. I tried to continue but it was swelling up during our break. I had to call it quits. Right now I am icing it down and it hurts like hell. Hope it feels better tomorrow. I have a lot to get done and can’t afford an injury.

Main Stage, One Year with Diabetes

My improv class had its show today. I can now say that I have done improv on the Second City Main Stage. Not really what people mean when they say that, but I take what I can get. (I was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2006) It has been a long time since I have been on stage in front of an audience. It was kind of a blur. Don’t really know how it went, but people laughed so it must have been OK.

Today is also my one year anniversary of finding out that I had diabetes. It has been an up and down year with that. I know that it is a long haul, something that I will deal with the rest of my life. Glad that I found out about it when I did. The couple of years before were pretty bad health wise. I was always tired and didn’t know why. I thought it was just allergies (which I have also), but it turned out to be more. I am really enjoying the extra energy that I have had this year. Although not today because of the lost hour of sleep for Daylight Saving. I am tired.

Time for a nap.

Politics beat Hope

Hillary Clinton beat Obama in the big states of Ohio and Texas tonight. That means the fight continues for another few months. With Clinton’s wins she has no reason to drop out, even though it is nearly impossible for her to win the elected delegate count when all is said and done. Obama’s lead is just too great for her to catch up.

So what does all of this mean? For some reason I see this coming down to some ill will at the end and Clinton takes the nomination even though she doesn’t win the most delegates. The math doesn’t add up for her, but she and Bill have been around long enough in politics to know how to work the system. Some people might see this as Clinton stealing the nomination. I doubt that will go over very well with the hopeful Obama supporters. Politics as usual, so why should I vote. It doesn’t really matter anyway.

Other scenario is the Obama does come back and wins here on out and gets the nomination. In order for that to happen both candidates will be spending a lot of money beating each other up. Waisted money in my opinion. Money that could better be spent in the general election (or better yet actually helping people).

Either way this leaves the democrats in a tattered position. It seems like no matter what happens the democrats always seem to screw things up for themselves. If things continue to get bitter, then I really don’t see either side coalescing around the other candidate come November. Only positive is that McCain is the best that can be hoped for from the Republicans. I can see him beating either democrat right now.

When I look at America, I see despair. Things are bad, really bad. Education, Erosion of the Middle Class, Standing in the World, Health Care, Economy, Oil Dependence, Work Ethic, Loss of Morals, Loss of Patriotism, Public Transportation, National Security, Social Security, Racial Equality, Women’s Rights – all get failing marks in my book. I don’t know if Obama can change all of that, but I know that McCain and Clinton will not. That is why I endorse hope. I am not saying that it will work, but it might. That might is enough for me to keep believing.

So here’s to hope, may it all work out in the end.

No Raise Dead spell today.

Gary Gygax is dead. The creator of D&D, and father of role playing, died today. I spent many hours of my youth playing his games. It is a sad day when a childhood hero dies. Creativity, Imagination and Friendship all came from roll playing. Some of the best memories that I have as a kid took place rolling dice and pretending to be a fantasy character.

Rudy on SNL

Another night of SNL. Juno girl, Ellen Paige, hosted the show. She was OK. Only funny part of the show was Rudy Giuliani saying that SNL was like his campaign, started off strong but no real ending. I agree except for the start off strong bit. So other than the bad ending, no start, and a non-existent midpoint, it was still pretty bad.

Well, maybe one exception was the last sketch with Paige going gay. Still not much of an ending though.

That didn’t work

Went to bed but couldn’t fall asleep. Got up an decided to watch The DaVinci Code. Wow, what a good movie. I have always love a good grail story. Ever since I was a kid I was interested in King Arthur and his knights. When I was older I studied a little bit more of the legend. I remember early on listening to a family friend tell stories late into the night of the search.

It isn’t surprising that this is such an enduring story. It goes to the heart of faith itself. We are all struggling to find our place in the larger world. If there was just some proof of God then we could grasp onto that. I doubt that people will ever loose interest in this greatest story. If Babylon 5 is any indication we’ll even be looking for the grail in space.
